Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a large stock pot to 350 ºF.
  2. Add the cod to a medium sized mixing bowl. Add the lemon juice, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and toss to coat.
  3. Combine the breading, remaining cayenne pepper, and remaining garlic powder in a shallow dish.
  4. Whisk the egg and the water in a shallow dish.
  5. Dip each piece of the cod in the egg then dredge in the breading. Place the breaded cod on a baking sheet until ready to fry.
  6. Carefully add the cod, in batches, to the oil and fry for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Using a slotted metal spoon remove the cod from the oil to a platter lined with paper towels.
  8. Whisk the ketchup, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, hot sauce, and horseradish in a small mixing bowl. Serve immediately with the fried cod.
